What to Do When Your Carpet Gets Wet

4/16/2018 (Permalink)

Saturated Carpet

Sometimes, we as homeowners do not realize that carpeting usually has multiple layers underneath. There is a pad below the carpet fibers that tend to hold any liquid, dirt and odor that it comes into contact with. This is why carpet cleaning will sometimes take two cleans before you are satisfied with the end result. Once a carpet pad has been saturated, whatever the pad underneath is holding on to will soak into the fibers of the carpet causing odor and sometimes more visible stains. Likewise, when that pad is overly saturated, extracting the excess water is vital to the drying process. Many instances it is best to remove the pad completely to save the carpeting since it is fairly inexpensive to replace. Remember, never use a standard vacuum to attempt to extract excess water yourself and call SERVPRO of Tuscaloosa North to assist in all water damage needs.
